Spain Facts
Main Spanish Airports Close to the Parks
Flying Time
Flights from major UK airports (such as London Gatwick, London Stansted, Manchester, or Birmingham) to Spain generally take around 2 to 3 hours, depending on your specific destination and departure point. Low-cost and full-service airlines operate numerous daily flights, making it convenient to find a timetable that suits your holiday plans.
Time Zone
PortAventura World & Aquopolis Water Park (both near Salou on the Costa Dorada):
Reus Airport is the closest, just a 15–20 minute drive away.
Barcelona El Prat Airport is around an hour’s drive, making it another convenient option.
Parque Warner (Madrid):
Madrid-Barajas Airport is the nearest international airport, roughly 20–30 minutes from the city centre. Parque Warner is situated about 30–40 minutes south of central Madrid by car or public transport.
Spain (mainland and Balearic Islands) is typically one hour ahead of the UK (Greenwich Mean Time plus one hour). If the UK is on British Summer Time, Spain remains one hour ahead during that period as well.
Best Time to Visit
For the most pleasant weather and manageable crowd levels, consider visiting late spring (May to June) or early autumn (September). During these times, you can enjoy warm temperatures without the peak-season hustle. July and August are the height of summer and offer plenty of sunshine, but the parks can be very busy. If you prefer a lively atmosphere with extended park hours, the summer months are perfect. However, if you want slightly cooler weather and fewer queues, the shoulder seasons are a great choice.
Currency
Spain is part of the Eurozone, so the
Euro (€) is the currency you’ll use throughout your trip. Most shops, restaurants, and attractions accept credit and debit cards, but it’s always wise to keep some cash on hand for smaller purchases or tipping.
Why Spain
Spain is a country that radiates warmth, both in its sunshine and its welcoming atmosphere. Whether you’re travelling with little ones, teenagers, or ‘kids at heart’, Spain offers a world of excitement that caters to adventurers aged nine to ninety and beyond. From fun-filled water parks to exhilarating theme parks, there is something for everyone, making it an ideal destination for your next family holiday.
One of the most thrilling attractions is PortAventura World, a sprawling resort that brings together roller coasters, live shows, and immersive themed areas. It’s perfect for families, with rides to suit the cautious first-timer as well as the bravest thrill-seekers. Meanwhile, Aquopolis Water Park is a paradise on hot summer days, letting you cool off with twisting slides and splash zones. It’s a great place to come together as a family, where younger children can safely play in shallower pools while older visitors ride the bigger slides and wave pools.
For even more fun, Parque Warner in Madrid combines entertainment and action in a setting inspired by beloved film and television characters. Bursting with live shows, interactive rides, and themed zones, it’s a treat for budding superheroes, cartoon fans, and film buffs alike. Whether you’re whizzing around on high-speed rides or taking a leisurely stroll through the park’s picturesque walkways, you’ll find something that appeals to all generations.
Beyond the theme parks, Spain’s rich culture, delicious cuisine, and stunning landscapes ensure there’s plenty to explore outside of the resorts. Families can savour tapas in charming local restaurants, wander through bustling markets, and soak up the lively atmosphere of Spanish festivals. And for those quieter moments, Spain’s beautiful beaches, scenic national parks, and historic cities provide endless opportunities for relaxation and discovery.
Combining thrilling attractions with a cultural richness that welcomes visitors of every age, Spain truly has it all. With theme parks guaranteed to put a smile on everyone’s face and a sunny climate that’s perfect for making holiday memories, it’s no wonder so many families choose Spain for their next adventure.
