Los Angeles International Airport (LAX): As the largest airport in the area, LAX offers the widest range of flights and travel options. You can drive to Disneyland in around 40-60 minutes (depending on traffic) and to Universal Studios Hollywood in about 30 minutes.

Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR): Often less crowded than LAX, Burbank Airport is very convenient for Universal Studios Hollywood and the Warner Bros. Studio Tour, with only a short 20-minute drive to each.

John Wayne Airport (SNA): Located in Orange County, John Wayne is the closest airport to Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure – roughly a 20-minute drive away.

Long Beach Airport (LGB): While slightly smaller, Long Beach can also be a convenient option for travelling to Anaheim’s Disneyland parks, about a half-hour drive away.

Los Angeles operates on Pacific Time (PT), which is generally 8 hours behind the UK when the UK is on Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). During the UK’s Daylight Saving Time (British Summer Time), the difference is usually 7 hours.

Best Time to Visit

If you prefer milder weather and fewer crowds, consider visiting in late spring (April–May) or early autumn (September–October). These months often boast warm, pleasant days without the intense summer rush. However, if you love the festive atmosphere, December can be magical, with the parks offering special holiday-themed entertainment.

Currency

The currency in Los Angeles (and throughout the United States) is the US Dollar (USD). Most places accept credit and debit cards, but it’s always handy to carry some cash for smaller purchases like street food, parking, or tipping.

Why Los Angeles

Los Angeles is a sun-drenched paradise that truly has something for everyone, whether you’re a parent travelling with children or a fun-loving adventurer at heart. There’s a reason this dynamic city is world-famous: it blends glittering Hollywood glamour, stunning Pacific coastlines, and cultural vibrancy into an unforgettable holiday destination. From ages 9 to 90, you’ll find endless ways to indulge your inner child and soak up an atmosphere that’s equal parts star-studded excitement and laid-back California charm.

One of the most compelling reasons to visit Los Angeles is the sheer variety of its theme parks, sure to delight all generations. Disneyland Park is a cherished icon that has captured hearts for decades, whisking visitors to lands filled with fairy-tale magic and thrilling rides. Right next door, Disney California Adventure offers even more excitement, from Pixar-themed adventures to the exhilarating Incredicoaster. The attention to detail in these parks is remarkable, creating immersive worlds where stories and characters come to life—perfect for bringing out the child in anyone.

Universal Studios Hollywood, on the other hand, serves up a captivating glimpse behind the silver screen. With attractions paying homage to classic films and contemporary hits, each ride and show bursts with cinematic flair. The famous Studio Tour takes you beyond your everyday film-watching experience, offering an insider’s look at how Hollywood blockbusters are actually made. For another taste of the behind-the-scenes magic, the Warner Bros. Studio Tour is a must. You can wander through authentic sets, peer into prop warehouses, and even snap a photo on the actual ‘Friends’ sofa. It’s a thrill for film buffs and casual fans alike, granting you an up-close view of the incredible artistry that powers the movie industry.

Away from the roller coasters and film sets, Los Angeles continues to shine. Its pleasant, sunny climate makes nearly every day feel like summer, and the city’s diverse neighbourhoods overflow with unique dining experiences, cultural hotspots, and shopping opportunities. Whether you’re exploring the trendy boutiques of Melrose Avenue, people-watching on Venice Beach, or wandering the historic streets of Downtown LA, you’ll find a warm, welcoming spirit everywhere you go. And don’t miss the iconic Santa Monica Pier, where families can enjoy nostalgic fun on a classic seaside amusement park, complete with a brightly lit Ferris wheel and stunning ocean views.

All told, Los Angeles effortlessly combines fantasy, reality, and warm West Coast sunshine. The result is a city where dreams are nurtured—and where visitors of any age can relish the chance to play, explore, and fall in love with the spirit of California. It’s little wonder that after you experience the enchantment of LA for yourself, you’ll be busy planning a return trip before you know it.
